Pleiades Modern is a new neighborhood in Central park district of Downtown Durham. This neighborhood offers a little something different with many of the features that make a neighborhood a special place. When designing Pleiades the developers envisioned a central space as a place for neighbors to gather, relax and enjoy green grass in the middle of the city. The architects incorporated common-sense energy-efficient building and design principles with a modernist, light-filled and comfortable atmosphere. The pocket neighborhood of nine homes is named Pleiades (PLEE-uh-deez) after the luminous cluster of nine stars in the constellation Taurus. The name highlights a new, shining addition to the “Bull City’s” evolving fabric. Although the name references stars, the sun also plays an important role in the design of these homes.

We worked with Developer Stuart Cullinan of Five Horizons and Developer/Broker The Adam Dickinson Group at 501 Realty at Pleiades Modern during the building process to get everything set to simply add solar. The houses were built with solar in mind and all the feeds are hidden, keeping with the sleek modern look. Each will each be able to fit a solar system between five and ten kilowatts, depending on the home design. Custom sized and paired with the energy efficiency and square footage, these homes are well positioned to take advantage of solar’s financial, energy security and environmental benefits.
Solar and Battery, Solar Storage
Not only are these homes built with solar in mind but they are designed to be able to simply add solar storage like the Tesla Powerwall, for which Yes Solar Solutions is a certified installer. Our battery and storage solutions could power the critical loads for these homes for about a day. If stacked (Tesla Powerwalls can be stacked up to 10) the units could power all loads for a house this size.
