DuBose Heath Center is Turning Solar Power into a Movement

DuBose Health Center

What if your energy savings could do more than just cut costs? What if it fueled innovation, strengthened a community, and created a model for the future?

That’s exactly what is happening with the DuBose Health Center solar project, and it’s a story that proves the power of renewable energy to inspire real change.

This project isn’t only about solar panels—it’s about people coming together with a shared vision for sustainability.

A Partnership That Made It Possible

Adding solar to DuBose Health Center required more than just a vision—it took collaboration.

“Yes Solar Solutions stuck with us every step of the way, from navigating financial approvals to meeting Duke Energy’s deadlines. Their expertise made all the difference.”

Sara Flynn-Loy, Executive Director & Gavin Locklear, Administrator

With the right team in place, this project became more than just an energy solution—it became a model for what’s possible when a community commits to sustainability.

Why DuBose Went Solar (And Why It Matters)

For DuBose Health Center, rising energy costs were an obstacle to their mission of providing top-tier care. Located within the Cedars community, DuBose offers wellness care, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, making efficiency and sustainability essential.

But they didn’t want a temporary solution. They want to align their long-term goals, values, and responsibility with their community. That’s where the 112.2 kW solar array came in. With 264 panels generating 27% of their annual energy needs, DuBose has redefined what sustainability can mean for a care facility.

The project is an investment in a brighter, more secure future—for both the center and the environment.

A Community-Powered Solution

The success of the DuBose solar project wasn’t the work of one person or even one organization. It was a collective effort, powered by the vision and dedication of the Cedars community.

At the heart of the project was the sustainability task force, led by Tom Henkel and Tom Clegg, who turned an idea into action. They didn’t simply advocate for solar—they made it accessible.

Through the Sustainable Projects Fund, residents and supporters pooled their resources, earning a 5% return on their investments while creating a financial foundation for future energy innovations.

This wasn’t only a win for sustainability; it was a win for the community. Together, they proved that the right partnerships and a shared vision could make a lasting impact.

What This Means for You

DuBose Health Center’s journey a feel-good story and a roadmap for others. Whether you’re a business, nonprofit, or homeowner, the lessons from DuBose are clear:
