Duke Energy’s PowerPair℠ program provides incentives for new solar panel installations when homeowners install a battery at the same time.
EnergyWise Home/ Power Manager Battery Control
Some battery systems can participate in utility programs that provide additional monthly credits in exchange for limited grid support.
Through Duke Energy’s EnergyWise Home/ Power Manager Battery Control program, eligible customers may receive an incentive of $6.50 per kW per month for allowing temporary, controlled adjustments to how the battery operates during select times of the year.
These events are limited and typically occur:
- Up to 18 times during winter (December – March)
- Up to 9 times during summer (May – September)
- Up to 9 times during the remaining months
During an event, Duke Energy may temporarily adjust settings such as charging, discharging, or holding state of charge. Your battery automatically returns to normal operation once the event ends.
Outside of these event windows, you can use your battery as normal. Customers may also receive up to four opt-out dates per year, allowing you to decline participation on selected days. Additional opt-outs may affect continued eligibility in the program. You stay in control of whether participation is right for your home.

- Is enrollment in the EnergyWise Home / Power Manager program required?
No, enrollment is completely optional. You can decide whether the monthly incentive and program participation are the right fit for your home. - Will I still have backup power during a control event?
Yes, your battery will retain backup capacity. Duke Energy will not discharge the system below a 20% state of charge. - Will my battery return to normal settings after the event ends?
Yes, your battery automatically returns to normal operation once the event is complete. No action is needed from you.

If the battery is fully charged, excess energy may be sent to the grid. Depending on your utility program, you may receive credits, and some systems can charge during lower-rate periods and use stored energy when rates are higher.
