How does a SPAN panel work?
Before we dive into how a SPAN panel works, first, we need to talk about how the utility grid handles electricity usage.
Recently, there has been a shift to fully electrifying homes, which can cause a rise in homeowners’ overall electrical loads. An electrical load is essentially anything in your home that consumes electricity. This is typically your home appliances such as laundry machines, dishwashers, EV chargers, etc. If you were to try to run all of these at once, you may run the risk of overloading your utility meter that is connected to the grid.
