Referred Solar Installation North Carolina Benefits from PowerPair Program

Customer Motivation

A trusted neighbor’s referral was the spark that led to this homeowner’s solar journey. What followed was a desire for a long-term solution that blends energy production and backup power. By choosing both rooftop solar and storage, this Cary homeowner gained reliable power, even when the grid goes down, and more control over rising energy costs.

The solar and battery system received an incentive through Duke Energy’s PowerPair program. By enrolling in Duke Energy’s Bridge Rate, a hybrid between traditional net metering and time-of-use pricing, this homeowner benefits from lower rates when charging their Powerwall and higher value when using or exporting stored energy during peak periods.

Project Overview

This residential solar installation in Cary, NC came to us in December 2024. It started with a referral from one of our most engaged customers. The confidence in our team led another homeowner to explore the benefits of clean energy with Yes Solar Solutions.

The project features a 15.18 kW system composed of 33 REC 460W Alpha Pure-RX panels paired with two Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries.  The system is expected to produce approximately 16,300 kWh of clean energy per year. Offering both cost savings and peace of mind.

Project Challenges & Solutions

Thanks to a solid roof and ample sun exposure, this install was smooth from start to finish. The key to success was maximizing energy yield while preparing for potential outages. Our team customized the layout to optimize both power production and battery functionality through the Powerwall 3’s seamless integration.

Financial Incentives & Savings

Enrolling in Duke Energy’s Bridge Rate adds a unique advantage for some PowerPair participants. The Bridge Rate is a hybrid of traditional net metering and time-of-use pricing, and about half of PowerPair customers are placed on this rate structure. Unlike standard TOU customers, those on the Bridge Rate are automatically enrolled in Duke’s Battery Control program, which allows stored energy to be dispatched by Duke during peak demand. In return, homeowners receive a Battery Control credit that can help offset their monthly minimum bill, sometimes resulting in a net credit.

While batteries offer similar time-shifting benefits across both rate plans, Duke Energy’s Battery Control program adds an extra layer of savings potential. Paired with the 30% federal tax credit and our PowerPair program incentive, this setup creates a compelling pathway to cleaner, smarter energy use.
