Yes Solar Solutions installed RTI International’s first-ever solar project as a parking garage solar canopy. The project uses 484 bi-facial panels that can capture sunlight from above and below, maximizing energy absorption.
The canopy is a 268 kW system that is expected to produce 342,000 kWh of clean electricity every year. The array spans 13,700 square feet on the top of the Holden Building. It will generate enough energy to power all the electric vehicle charging stations on the deck. Plus, it will reduce the building’s utility bill by over $25,000 in the first year.
Sustainability Measured
“RTI International has committed to sustainability efforts for years. We’ve reduced our total greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption by more than 50% since 2008, and ensured any new RTI construction meets LEED Silver or Gold standards,” said Tim Gabel, President and CEO.
This solar project reflects the institute’s commitment to carbon reduction and environmental stewardship. The solar canopy will prevent over 220,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually. It is the equivalent to the carbon produced by 120 acres of forest.
“Solar is just one of many smart sustainability investments that RTI is making in our real estate portfolio and our future. Solar is environmentally sustainable and financially sustainable. We focus on investments with a positive Return on Investment (ROI) and Net Present Value (NPV). Solar delivers on those criteria. Our One RTI mindset calls us to be good stewards of the environment and our financial resources,” shared Harold Hicks, Vice President, RTI Global Real Estate.
Partnership Achieved
Thank you, RTI International, for this fantastic partnership. The solar canopy demonstrates the incredible work achieved when we think big and stay rooted in our local community! The project was made possible with the help of Dixie Construction, Terrasmart, and Chamberlain Electrical Services LLC.
