Pullen Memorial Baptist Church is located beside North Carolina State University. This solar project was part of the Solarize the Triangle program. Through the program, Yes Solar Solutions installed a 22 kW system using 50 CertainTeed panels and 1 CPS inverter.
Solarize the Triangle was a community-based group-purchasing program for solar energy, battery storage, and other clean energy technologies.
The Solarize the Triangle program in 2022 included 11 communities. It set a national record as the largest Solarize program in the country. There were over 1,500 people receiving free evaluations in a single campaign.
More than 180 home and business owners signed contracts to purchase renewable energy systems for their properties through the program. Going forward, this yielded 2.4 million kWh of annual energy production and more than $300,000 in annual utility bill savings. This created nearly $6 million in new clean energy development locally.
Pullen Memorial Baptist Church says, “Simply, we are ordinary people called to do extraordinary acts in our community, our neighborhoods, our state and in our world.”
They shared a blog about the one year anniversary of having solar and said, “The panels produced 88,560 kWh of electricity, which was 6.7% more energy than expected! This reduced our electric bill by $5,844!
“The energy produced by our solar panels avoided the emission of 138,364 lbs of CO2. This is equivalent to the emissions released by burning 70,302 lbs of coal or 7,062 gallons of gasoline. It is also equivalent to the amount of carbon sequestered by 74.8 acres of U.S. forest land annually.
“Investment in solar panels is helping to slow climate change and lower Pullen’s electricity costs. Duke energy has already announced significant rate increases for the next six years, which will mean even greater savings for Pullen in the future”.
